Dorsal soft rays (total): 230. Dark grey in color. Anal rays about 230. Max length : 160 cm TL male/unsexed.

Deep-water. Marine; benthopelagic; depth range 290 - 2400 m. Found on the upper continental slope, over rocky substrata.

Circumglobal, except the northeast Pacific. Eastern Atlantic: Liberia to northern Angola. Collected on deepwater surveys, RBCM specimen (Gillespie pers. comm. 2011).
